‘BACK TO BASICS’ - Dryland Mushing with a Twist
Mushers and Volunteers! I am beyond excited about this year’s event! This run will be totally different than anything we have done!
We are calling it ‘Back To Basics’, because that is just what it is. As a musher, you will have the opportunity to run and train your dogs on trails that will build endurance and confidence in you and your dogs.
Remember, this is a NON-CLUB, NON-RESCUE event, so you are on your own for liability purposes and you assume any and all risks that may be present for you and your team during this event.
This year’s event is designed to give the mushers and their dogs the opportunity to spend time together on the trail, put substantial mileage on their team if desired, and spend time together as mushers without having to adhere to a full schedule.

We are fortunate to have Sunshine Mills, dog food company supporting our efforts this year by donating dog food to each musher that participates in the event. Sunshine Mills is a very large company that hosts over 100 labels. They are providing dog food that is a Hunter’s/Working dog blend that is perfect for our dogs. The rep is a huge supporter of us and we appreciate him working with his company to provide this for us.
Location and Lodging Information
CAMPGROUND
Some of us are camping at Pisgah Bay, which is on the Kentucky Lake side of LBL. Pisgah is a great place to camp. It overlooks the water and has plenty of room for all of us and dogs. There is no fresh water available there, so you will need to plan accordingly…..there are other places nearby to get water if needed. However, there is an outhouse there. You will be able to camp close to your vehicle, in your vehicle, or away in the woods if you want. This campground is very versatile.HOTELS: Where do we stay?
Days Inn at Kuttawa, KY has offered great rates for those attending the race weekend! This is a pet-friendly hotel that is excited we are coming! When guests call to register for your rooms, they just need to mention that they are with the Between The Lakes Sled Dog Dash to get your special rate. The Manager told me there was a great area in the back of the hotel to drop the dogs and walk them. For our friends coming that are not bringing their dogs, check out Patti's Inn and Suites in Grand Rivers. Remember, this is our NON pet friendly option and a no smoking facility.

This schedule is designed with a lot of flexibility for you and your team. With the organized runs and any shorter ones you may want to do on your own, you could easily put 20+ miles on your dogs over the course of the weekend. There is a single track dirt trail just behind our campsite where you could run literally 60 miles before you get to the end. That is an option for you and your team if you wanted to run a portion of that.
